HELP! Health problem that doesn’t seem to go away!?

Hey guys,

I’m hoping someone can shed some light on my health issues, basically I have been ill for around 3 years now, various symptoms like rapid heart rate, depression, anxiety, brain fog, eye floaters, itchy scalp, hair loss, itchy inside of my ear with loads of wax build up, smelly breath, tingling sensations in arms and feet, cold extremities, swollen hands and face and many more.

After being admitted into A&E they found I had a low thyroid function as known as hypothyroidism and started me on thyroxine, now my energy is better as I can make it through the day without falling asleep but can’t do anything remotely taxing like exercise or manual labour.

I have also started to have alot of problems with my stomach in the past year, feeling like I need to go alot, having loose bowel movements, constipation, pains in the lower left, bloating, gas, lots of acid.

I also have swollen lymph nodes at the back of my neck and have started to pass what looks like white rice in my stool but I dont eat white rice!

I get very random mood swings which seem to change pretty rapidly, I also get extremely hungry and dizzy, crave carbs and sugar alot.

I have had blood tests, colonoscopy and am just about to submit a stool test, all tests are okay so far just showing low thyroid function, colonoscopy was clean, Dr has no idea why I’m getting stomach pains and I am going to the toilet at least once a day sometimes more so it can’t be that.

I have trouble remembering things and can’t get out of bed in the morning, this is coupled with night time insomnia, luckily I work from home, I’m 25 year old male btw.

I am having such strange problems, I seem to need to urinate more often and often find that my testicles itch when doing so, I also get really strange “fluttering” sensation in them quite often and sometimes get the same feeling close to my rectum area.

Sometimes my stomach feels really bruised but on the inside after I have a bowel movement, my Dr gave me drugs for IBS but they didn’t help at all with the cramps or stomach issues.

I paid to get a hair analysis done and it came up with post virus and parasites, I was also deficiant in biotin and selenium, both of which I’ve supplemented to get my levels back up.

My question is does anyone actually know what this could be, it’s such a wide range of symptoms that literally seemed to show up overnight, no doctor seems to take me seriously but I know something is not right.

Can anyone help?
Thanks guys.

Weird abdominal pain/discomfort?

I am a healthy 23 year old male who is very active and an avid weight lifter (natural body builder, if you will). I have had this weird abdominal discomfort for the past week. It started off as stabbing pain in the right pelvic/lower abdominal area, to the left pelvic/lower abdominal area. Now it just feels like a pressure/minor discomfort in my lower abdominal area, with occasional stabbing pains in my lower right and left abdominal area/pelvic area. When I am active, I don’t even feel the pain/discomfort, only when I am resting it starts to bother me a bit.

2 months ago I had a swollen lymph node in my right pelvic area for months, but after a while is disappeared (at least I think it did; I have a lot of muscle in this area). I went to see a doctor, underwent numerous tests (CBC, HIV, chlamydia, etc) and everything came back normal, so the doctor told me not to worry about anything, etc.

I mean, the pain I have right now is nothing severe, but enough to just annoy me a little. I am thinking that it could be some kind of constipation, but I really don’t have problems passing bowel movements. I also have this random lymph node in my lower right side of my neck that I can feel (near the shoulder).

Other than everything mentioned above, I have absolutely no other symptoms whatsoever.

Can anyone give me any insight to this situation?

Thanks.

Also, the past 2 weeks I have been eating raw oatmeal (take a cup of oatmeal, mix with mild water and drink). I have a feeling that I did not consume enough water, so the oatmeal could be blocking my intestines somehow, causing the bloated feeling I have in my lower abdominal/pelvic area.

It sounds like you are having bowel problems – maybe IBS or just the bowels are moving too quickly? I’m not a doctor but I’ve had similar experiences – minus the lymph node swelling. I would get it checked out, for peace of mind if anything. Stop eating oatmeal and if you aren’t feeling better in two weeks see a doctor.

Constipated & have tried everything! Should i go to the ER?

so, ive been dealing with constipation for a few months now and its gotten really bad. heres my symptoms:

abdominal pain, not super localized, but most often on the left side.
lower back pain, worse when trying to go to the bathroom. even when i cant.
nausea.
chest pain off & on. (assuming its from gas bubbles)
from not going to the bathroom to having bouts of diarrhea.
those are the main symptoms ^ almost daily for each of them.

im only 15 so my options are sort of limited.
I’ve tried suppositories, but they fell out and had no effect, even after waiting a while. i did 2 enemas, really had no effect. & I just took the laxative , dulcolax around 9 am. i know it says should be effective around 6-12 hours, its been 4 so far. ive had mass stomach cramps and a little bit of nausea.

If this medicine doesnt work, my parents said theyll take me to the ER. what would they do at the ER for this if nothing else has worked? a stronger enema or dig it out??

My sis just went to ER for this same thing last night. First they will do an xray to make sure you have no obstruction or anything. Then they will give you the stuff to give yourself an enema but its different then the ones in the store. My sis said it was milk n molasses. Anyhow, she was so sick before she went and she did go and felt so much better when she came home. A lil weak but much better.

Riverpalm answers:

I would say probably not if you just took a home pregnancy test and your 30 days past due, and it came back negative. I would advise you to go to your doctor and get things checked out!! I have never been regular either and it can cause you to miss your cycle some months. Its a blessing until you are trying to get pregnant then it makes things tricky !! Good luck!!

****To the person who brought up the “I didn’t know I was pregnant” show, more then 90% of the time, those women on there have serious medical conditions and haven’t even tested for pregnancy, and are unaware of any problem until they go into labor (seen the show, and know what happens)! The asker is aware of the fact she may be pregnant and she has tested. Yes she could be pregnant, but with 30 days past her missed period and a negative hpt result the chances of pregnancy are slim to none!!

Worried about my health, point me in the right direction please?

I’ve had a lot of issues lately with my health, and I can no longer tell what is a symptom of what.

PLEASE, I KNOW IT’S LONG, BUT PLEASE, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO READ, THAT WOULD BE SOOOO VERY APPRECIATED.

THANK YOU!

1). I’ve always had issues with my menses. This last time, however, I bled for a few days, skipped two months, and now I’ve been bleeding since November 11th. It started out VERY light, just a bunch of small blood clots. So, I put tampons in and didn’t worry about it. But it started getting heavy for a few days with huge blood clots, then there would be a day of barely any blood or clots and then the next day heavy all over again with clots. Off and on, off and on for over a month. Someone suggested I could have fibroids.

2). I’m sure my iron is low. I am ALWAYS tired. But, then again, I don’t usually go to sleep until 3-6am, and I wake up a bit before 10am. So, I’m not sure if my iron has anything to do with it. I know last month (November) I tried to donate blood, but my iron was too low. She didn’t know the number, because the screen just put three “L’s”.

3). Constipation, but with blood. I’m not even sure if I’m constipated, but I think I am. I mean, the stool sort of slides out (I’m terribly sorry for any images going through your mind) easily, but I can still feel that there is waste inside me that I cannot push out, and I don’t even try
too hard to do so, because I don’t want to hemorrhage. So, if I’m not hemorrhaging, because I’m not straining, I don’t get why there is blood in the stool. I am very worried.

*note: I am severely dehydrated right now. I’ve taken to drinking strong tea all day everyday, with no water in between. This has been going on for three days, and I just realized last night that the problems I had yesterday (headache, sore neck and shoulders, pain in my left lower/mid back, swollen feet, dry mouth, fatigue) could be signs of dehydration. I know tea dehydrates you. My mum has renal failure, and her nephrologist warns her about tea a lot. She got the illness from streptococcus attacking her kidneys, so I didn’t think it was genetic at all, so I wasn’t as cautious with my kidneys as others might who has a close relative with renal failure, but now I’m thinking that was a fail. I read that a lot of my symptoms of dehydration are also that of renal failure. It scares me a lot because my mum also had really swollen feet.
But, I have been eating a lot of Ramen lately, because we haven’t gone shopping. So, maybe the sodium in the Ramen is causing water retention?

4). I’m pretty sure I have Diabetes (type II). I was told 50 pounds ago that I was pre-diabetic, and I started losing weight, but then I started getting depressed, and didn’t even care if I died from any health issue. It would have been welcome. But now, I just want the health issues to go away. I’m still depressed, but I feel like these health issues are what’s kind of putting me over the edge, along with the other things that normally stress me out.

5). Severely low in Vitamin D. I was told I was defficient a while ago, but my memory is horrible, and I can never remember to take the pills.

6). Potassium could be low. I had a Charley Horse in my leg, while in the shower the night before last.

7). I am vegan/vegetarian.

8). I’ve had this on going nervous stomach ache the last few days. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m anxious or nervous, but that’s the way it feels.

9). I’m depressed and under a severe amount of stress.

10). As you can guess from number four, I am very overweight, with a very high (45.5) bmi. Not even a year ago, I was at 39/40, so I am gaining fast. I suppose nine and ten go hand in hand.

I have pledged to myself to drink 10 8oz. cups of water a day, and to try to stick to a raw veggies and fruit diet with oatmeal, cereals, nuts and veggie “meat” thrown in. I’m hoping to start losing weight (again) and offset these problems before it’s too late. I know I can. I can reverse the diabetes by exercising an hour a day and eating healthy (I already eat pretty healthy, but when I get in my ‘down’ moods, I eat any and everything vegetarian I can find, even if I’m full. ugh. I swear I’m bipolar sometimes and maybe a slight ED) I may also be able to pick up some E-tea from the Herb Shop to shrink the fibroids naturally.

My Question To You: Can you look through this list and tell me what goes hand in hand? Like, I know that nine and ten feed off of each other, because when I’m stressed, I eat and when I eat, I hate myself. I know the Diabetes and kidney issues can go hand in hand when Diabetes is left untreated. So yes, can you see anymore correlations with these issues?

Thank you! I know it was very long, but to those who answered, I appreciate it so much.

I probably should have put this in the actual question: I cannot afford a doctor. I am a college student without a job and without insurance. I have a doctor’s appointment scheduled for the 27th, that I can’t go to, because I can’t afford the 30 dollar fee that is charged to full time college students or those with low income.
Which is why I’m trying to go the natural way and see if my symptoms clear up.

It’s time to focus on your health and put everything else on hold. The blood in your stool is something you need to pay attention to. It’s unusual for a vegan to have constipation. We usually go to the bathroom several times per day. It’s concerning that you are constipated and have blood in your stool. Beg, borrow, steal, or sell some stuff to get money to make your medical appointment, or you will be visiting the emergency room soon.

1) Menses – At the end of the 1800s, the average age of menses was 17. Today it’s 12 or 13. Today, most Westerners eat massive quantities of cow milk products and meat. The hormones remain in the food and the consumption of animal based foods are correlated with increased growth and risk of cancers and “early” menses. If you are a young vegan, it may be normal not to have menses for a while. Otherwise see your doctor about this because there are other diseases that can cause this.

2) Iron – The best source of iron comes from leafy greens such as collards, kale, chard, broccoli, and spinach. In addition, these are high in calcium and protein. Most people would benefit by eating several cups per day. A few rare people may need to eat meat because of a medical or genetic condition.

3) Constipation – Blood in your stool is a serious health concern. Make an appointment to see your doctor. Commercial food products like breads sometimes add wood fiber to increase fiber content. A “whole plant based diet” is ideal for fiber and nutrition. Avoid tea, juices, and all other commercial drinks. Just drink pure water. See your doctor about the blood!

4) Diabetes Type II – Eat a “whole plant based diet.” Most people can reverse this completely by diet alone. See your doctor. (Dr. Neal Barnard)

5) Vitamin D – Take an excess dose of Vitamin D. Make sure to get out in the sun for 15 minutes each day. Your skin can produce this critical hormone (it’s was misnamed when discovered). Other supplements can block vitamin D.

6) Potassium – Eat banana, oranges, raisins, melons, and other whole foods that are potassium rich.

7) Vegan – Being a vegan is a good start. Now try adding the foods you are missing from your diet. Eliminate processed foods. Take B12. Eat ground flax seed for Omega 3 fatty acids. You may have a rare condition that requires animal based products.
Nervous Stomach – Avoid wheat, dairy, and soy products. (Try brown rice, quinoa, and legumes instead.) Avoid eating the same teas, drinks, and commercial food products that you drink right now.

9) Depressed – Poor diet and lack of sleep can cause depression. Give yourself permission to take a break and focus on your health. Stop eating several hours before you go to sleep. People need at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Sleep is critical to health.

10) Weight Loss – If you eat a “whole plant based diet” you will see immediate weight loss. It’s the sugars, refined carbohydrates, salts, oils/fats, and food additives that cause most of the problems. If you drink sodas, stop it. Diet sodas usually contain aspartame which causes an increase in appetite. Another excitotoxin is MSG which is often found in fast foods.

Add cooked veggies as well as the raw veggies to your diet. Try eating legumes instead of the fake meats. Fake meat often contain too much salt and oils/fats.

You seem resourceful enough to come up with $30.00. Get your priorities straight.

Am I pregnant? Women- please help me out.?

I am a week late. The last day of my period was in the last week of April. I can’t pin point exactly what day it was though. I’ve tried calculating, but it always tells me when I concieved which I know is wrong because the week it tells me my boyfriend and I weren’t together. And I haven’t slept with anyone else. So it had to be earlier than what I think. However could I be wrong? Because it takes time when you’re concieving. Like a couple days right? Anywho, I’ve been cramping and feeling lower back pain which is the usual before I start. It’s been going on for about four days now and still no period so I’m really starting to worry. I feel like my body has changed a little, but for the most part I don’t have symptoms. My boobs aren’t sore, no morning sickness, etc. I am more tired than usual and my back seems to hurt more and more. My legs hurt too. I have discharge like crazy. As far as the food cravings go- nothing serious, seems usual. I’m not starving half to death but there are things I crave. I know a test will solve all my problems but I unfortantely don’t have the funds. In your opinion, do you think I am pregnant?

Would my breasts and nipples be itchy and dry with pain if I were only a few weeks pregnant?

My breasts (the areola) is very dry and scaly. They do get dry sometimes but I have never seen them this dry and rough. They actually have a texture to them. They itch in that area and the pain is going from my breast to my nipple, and it switches from breast to breast. It’s almost like a burning pain that comes and goes. They are tender but the pain is not excrutiating. I don’t feel hot right now but that comes off and on as well. They definitely feel heavier. I hope I am pregnant, but most women say the pain is so bad they can’t stand anyone to touch them. They hurt but not THAT bad. Also, my lower back is hurting and I have increased cervical mucus that seems acidic because my anus is irritated due to the discharge.

If I were a few weeks pregnant would I be experiencing this kind of pain already? Did anyone else go through this. Please share the details. Thanks in advance!

Yes, It’s what I’ve been going through. OMG, the itching is unbearable at times. I did have back pain in my early pregnancy, that’s how I knew I was pregnant, but it subsided by week 8-9.

Did you test for pregnancy yet? Or do you think you may be.

How long does it take an ovarian cyst to form?

Okay, so;
I went to the doctor Monday at around 11 a.m. because of diarrhea, vomiting, and pain in my lower right side of my abdomen. We called back at around 9 p.m. last night because after taking 4 Imodium and 3 phen. (after having 1 shot of it at the dr.) I still threw up and had diarrhea and the pain just got worse. The Dr. thought I might have appendicitis and recommended us to go to the ER. We left and went. They did a CT scan and found out that I had ovarian cysts and some swollen lymph. They gave me Lortab (7.5) and they didn’t help. The pain got worse so I went to a gynecologist yesterday morning around 2. They did an ultrasound and I had no cysts anymore; they had ruptured! They gave me some more pain medicine (Percocet) But, I started having pain at about 6 (around a 3 or 4 on a scale of 10). Even with the Percocet,it got unbearable (a 10) at around 10. We went back to the ER and they did another ultrasound. I had 5 cysts that had formed within that small amount of time!
**BTW, I’m only 13!
So, my questions are;
1) How long does it take an ovarian cyst to form?
2) Could I have ovarian cancer? (I know it’s common mostly with women over 35, but is it possible?)
3) I’m having extreme pain right now, too, and I’m still taking my Percocet. What should I do about it?

Sorry for asking so many questions, I’m just desperate for answers and wanting it to stop hurting!!

Oh my god, i am so sorry you have to go through all of that. I don’t know much about how long it takes for cysts to form, however i do know one thing, if you have an ovarian cyst that RUPTURED, pain pills should not have been the only thing the gyno should have given you. Ruptured cysts are a serious problem, and i suggest you find a better doctor, soon. On the topic on ovarian cancer, the chances are extreeeeemely low, so i wouldn’t worry about that.

Could all of this just be a coincidence or are some prophets/psychic revelations true?

About 11 years ago, I went to a prophet (most people say psychic). I was in my early twenties and in love with this guy but our relationship had faded and I wanted to know if he could be the one in the future. So the prophet shot down my hopes of a future with him by saying that he was no good, conceited and has too many women. She told me to leave him alone. She also revealed some other things that I didn’t even ask about like something minor about my health that no one who doesn’t know me, should know, the type of child I was and a few other things. The thing that really threw me for a loop was when she gave me a prayer to read in silence, while she was in the room. Then she told me to pray for whatever it is that I really needed or wanted but speak it, just say it to myself. So, me being young and thinking that this guy has to be “the one”, I prayed for us to be together. Then she stopped me and told me that I’m praying for him and she warned me to just leave it alone. Til this day, that incident still spooks me because it was like she was reading my mind. When she told me to pray for what I wanted, he was not the first thought to come to mind. He was like the 3rd. So for her to stop me, mid thought, was very eerie. I talked to him a couple of times after that but he ended up moving to another state and it was over. Another spooky thing was when she told me that I have a pain on the lower right side of my back. I told her that I didn’t have that. So 2 weeks later, while showering, I got an intense pain in that exact spot. It started getting so bad that it was getting hard to breath and bend down. It lasted about 2 weeks and then just stopped. Eerie!! So fast forward 11 years later and I looked that guy up on fb. We started getting close again and talking about marriage when he comes home (he was in another state) Long story short, I found out he really was no good because he started a relationship several months into our courtship but didn’t plan on telling me about it. (I found out via fb of all places) Anywho, now I find myself wondering if a guy in my life right now could be “the one” based on what she told me during that same visit 11 years ago. (She told me that I would marry a tall guy, older, but not too much older and that we would be happy.) A person who fits that description is in my life right now. He’s 6’5″ but not older. However, everybody always thinks he looks much older than me. We were friends for years, lost contact for 2, have been back in contact for 1 year and feelings started developing on both parts several months ago. The way we got back in contact was ironic because we ran into each other at a club and both of us are not club people. Also, we always had a strong attraction to each other, even as friends but he had a gf at the time and I was getting over that guy. But now we’re single, date others casually, but falling in love with each other. We get along like no others and are really comfortable with each other.

Do you believe that some people have the ability to see into the future or was this all just a bunch of coincidences?

Does this guy sound like the guy she told me about all of those years ago or should I wait til somebody who fits the description 100% comes into my life?

My grandmother and great grandmother were like that. They were really great judges of character and could read a person’s facial expressions quite well. If she was an older woman she would have a lot of experiences from which to draw. Some personality types gravitate toward other personality types. Sounds like she was very good at profiling her clientele and also understood the longings of the human heart. She seems to have given you some very good advice.

If you are truly falling in love with this guy, he may, indeed, be the one for you. Just keep doing what you are doing and if it works out, it works. If you keep continually searching, you may just overlook the one you were meant to see. You know in your heart of hearts. Not all advice is 100% but this sure sounds pretty close.

Pain in back of shoulder due to virus?

I have been having a sort of pinching dull pain in my left shoulder, behind the shoulder blade. I am a horseback rider, but have not been able to ride for the past week because of this problem. My doctor says this could be due to a virus that is causing muscle spasms in my shoulder. If so, what can I do about it? I have been taking Advil under the doctor’s recommendation, but it doesn’t seem to be helping. The shoulder only hurts when using my reins while riding, and when I lift somewhat heavy objects, but sometimes it just hurts randomly. I would really like to get rid of this problem soon so I will be able to ride again.

Riverpalm answers:

Yes, shoulder pain can be caused by a virus – There are several that could cause it. And, it may not have anything to do with spasms. There are viruses that cause inflammation of various parts of the body, usually following some other kind of virus attack like a cold. Often you will see others in the household with the same symptom either a couple days before or after yours. The pain could be in the shoulder, neck, a patch of skin, etc. But, with other symptoms and no recent injuries shoulder pain could also be an early sign of a heart problem (oftentimes a virus pain in the shoulder can feel severe enough to make you think it is your heart). There are a few other scarey things that can cause it, but a healthy adult need not worry about those.

Backs are very unpredictable to figure out what you did. You most likely overflexed or stretched it. If it is muscular, you should apply some warmth, via bath, or steam room and try to loosen it up, or see a masseues to take the knot out. But if it is more serious then that (like bone), you may want to see a chiropractor. Don’t flip out if it hurts for a couple weeks, its cause the muscle probably got knotted around the shoulder blade.

Rhomboideus Major Muscle might be causing my back pain. Can someone help me?

I have been having back pain since I was about about 12-14 years of age. Now its just hit it’s peak. Over the past 2 years, I have had this pain in my back, it is generally in two places exactly opposite of each other. It’s not under my shoulder blade but a little over to the side closer to my spine and just a little bit higher where the soft spot is. Most of the time its on my right side. So if you go where my shoulder blade is and head down under it, and over to the left near the side of my spine and up a little and to the right there is a soft spot, and it throbs and hurts. It makes me feel like my back needs to be cracked. Sometimes I get it on the left side exactly opposite of that exact spot. After that, the large muscle I think its called the Latissimus Dorsi becomes the same way, it gets very swollen and throbs, and it feels like my back needs to be cracked. I cant crack my back however. Not even a Chiropractor seems to be able to crack it. The pain is getting worse each day, and some nights I cant sleep. Is this a nerve problem, or do I have a severe condition? They have done x-rays on me, but it all comes out negative. I tell them the problem isn’t in my spine, its not a bone issue, its my muscles or nerves. They dont listen, they just say, ohh your just having minor back spasms. I bet if I had Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield they would listen. Hell they would probably take notes, and give me a shiatsu massage too! The hospital gives me nothing but Motrin 800mg which is about as useful as sugar pills. I have been placed on Vicodin, Percocet for it, and went as far as Oxycotin, but then my body numbs out everything goes numb EXCEPT I can still feel the throbbing in my back. Can anyone tell me if this is a condition. The name of it, and what I can do to make it better. Someone I know suggested Cortisone Shots to my back.

There’s no particular name for this condition that i can think of – it’s not even apparent what is going on.

You may need to get an MRI to determine what is going on here – an MRI will show problems with nerves, sometimes muscles, tendons, and vertebral discs. One way to approach this is to visit an orthopedic specialist, ask if an MRI is warranted, and see what the doc has to say. If it looks like a muscle problem, have the ortho write up an order to send you to a physical therapist, and include on the order options to use ultrasound, massage, and hydrotherapy as well as stretching or strengthening exercises as appropriate – give the therapists wide latitude to see what works.

After getting an MRI, if It looks like a nerve problem, ask the doc to refer you to a neurologist that specializes in spinal problems.

It may take months for that to heal and stay in place. A bone becomes miss-aligned either from trauma or an overly tight muscle which moves the bone or loose muscle which cannot contract properly.
The doctor can adjust you and put it back into proper alignment, but the muscle tissue responsible needs either to be stretched or strengthened to keep it in position. Sometimes it is more than one muscle or group involved.
What about Yoga for pregnancy or massage?

Be careful with using too much ice therapy. You can cause damage to tissues. I’m not a fan of ice cups being used during pregnancy. Just approach everything in moderation.
Breathing exercises can help to. 3 part breath also known as Yogic breath will really relax the tissue. It is best to have a RYT show you in person. I’m sure any teacher with prenatal experience would be happy to help. But a few classes would do you good. Just make sure you have your doctors permission before You start anything new.

Your local JC, Y or Community Center normally will have some one qualified.

Riverpalm answers:

See your health care provider as soon as possible (cardiologist or primary care doctor), for consultation. Chest pain generally originates from one of the organs in the chest (heart, lung, or esophagus) or from the components of the chest wall (skin, muscle or bone). Occasionally, organs close to the chest, such as the gall bladder or stomach, may cause chest pain. Pain in the chest may also be the result of neck pain that is referred to the chest, called referred pain.

Chest pain is a serious symptom meaning “heart attack” to most people. Serious chest discomfort should usually be evaluated by a doctor.
However, pain can also come from the:

Chest Wall–including muscles, ligaments, ribs, and rib cartilage
Lungs and outside covering of the lungs–pleurisy
Outside covering of the heart–pericarditis
Gullet
Diaphragm
Spine
Skin
Organs in the upper part of the abdomen

You should be able to deal effectively with pain arising from the chest wall. Pain medicines (acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen), topical treatments (Ben Gay, Vicks Vaporub, etc.), and general measures such as heat and rest should help. If symptoms persist for more than five days, see a doctor.
I hope this helps you. And good luck.

Please help! Terrible side pain?

I have no idea if this is my kidney or colon. I have terrible side pain on the left above my hip but below my ribs. This has been going on for about a week now, I went to the doctor an he said it’s probably a urinary tracking infection and put me on these pills but I have no trouble using the bathroom (peeing) they did say I had some protein (Bactria) in my urine. I did have trouble pooping before (gross I know), I’ve been taking fiber, drinking lots and lots water, even taking laxatives and it’s passed but I still have this unbearable side pain. Should I go back to the doctor and get a X-ray or something, or should I just let it pass.
You either have a urinary tract infection or a kidney stone. I would recommend drinking a lot of water, as well as cranberry juice. If you continue to have pain after 2 days of drinking a large amount of fluid, go back to the doctor.

Do I Have A Kidney Infection Or Just A Bad Back?

I am a 5ft3 17year old female and have always been healthy. On New Years Day 2009 I woke up with a sharp pain in my back, on the left side, just below my ribs. It disappeared after a few days and I thought nothing of it. Then towards the end of January, it returned, and I suddenly began to need to toilet very frequently (up to 15 times a day!). Again, this passed within a week and although I had the occasional twinge in my back, everything seemed ok. However, the sharp pains returned last week and instead of it being specifically in one place, it is now a constant dull ache radiating from the left of my back just below my ribs all the way down my back and round my side to the bottom left of my torso. This is there constantly and then the stabbing pain comes and goes both below my ribs and just above my hip.

It does tend to get worse when I’ve been on my feet for a few minutes which I find quite strange!

Is it just a bad back or should I see a doctor?

Some signs of a kidney infection are burning after you urinate, cramps in the back, fever and even nausea. I am having a similar problem right now as well. I have an ache in my back right under my ribs on the right side but its strange it started out on my left side a week ago and went away just like you describe. At first I thought I was maybe starting my period because to me it felt like period cramps in my back. I finally went to the doctor this morning because I couldn’t bare to walk with my back hurting like it was and he said indeed it was a kidney infection. He prescribed to me Ceftin. I hope this helps you out and gets you to the doctor because sounds like we have the same symptons. I never had a fever but I did have a little nauseated feeling from time to time. If you are having a burning sensation after you pee then you should buy an over the counter drug called AZO to take until you go to the doctor. It helped me out a lot with the burning and the sensation of feeling like I have to go constantly. Good luck!

Right stomach pain?

About 3 weeks ago I began having pain like a stitch in my upper right side below my ribs. Over a couple days, the pain started to stop, then came back moving over to the left more and was severe pain and felt like/ and looked like my muscles were going into spasms everytime I tried to stretch out or stand up straight. I went to the doctors who suspected gallbladder, even though I do not really fit the criteria and it didn’t get worse after eating. I got an ultrasound, and the results came back normal. Now the pain has moved down a little on my right side but it’s like a horizontal muscle pain everytime I expand my abdomen. I’ve also gone back to the docs and got blood tests done but havent got my results back yet. I am just wondering if anyone might know what it could be? Muscle tension or a knot? Serious answers only please..thanks

If this pain is very unique, and in your side back area, its worth a check up. I got in a bad motorcycle crash and just thought i got banged up. I had a bad pain in my lower back side area, about 3 hours after the crash i lost consiousness and was run to the hospital where they found i had torn my liver and kidney. Ended up pretty close to death. It could just be a bruise, or a cracked rib if it has already been a week though. Hope you got insurance!

I am a 14 year old girl with no previous health related conditions. For as long as I can remember I have been dealing with severe back pain. When I bend over, I get muscle spasms in my back and it feels as though I am going to fall over. These spasm, or muscle contractions are very painful and I am having trouble sleeping at night due to the severe pain. My parents say that it is due to tight leg muscles, but they have no medical knowledge and have no clue what they are talking about. I am a 14 year old high school soccer player, and have missed quite a few games do to this severe back pain.

If someone knows please tell me how it can be treated so that I can get back to doing the things that I love, get some sleep at night, and just generally get on with my life.

Sounds like a kidney stone not sure about the bone popping? If I bones popping it maybe a broken rib not sure how you ruled it out but it could also be gallbladder attack or a pulled muscle theres no way to tell without an actual assessment.
OK. Don’t freak out. The old saying in medicine is, “When you hear thundering hooves, think horses, not zebras.” Basically this means you consider more simple problems before complex ones. So let’s not go jumping to the cancer conclusion just yet, shall we? Up to this point there is no direct evidence to support such an assessment anyway.

There are any number of things that may be causing your pain. The female reproductive system is prone to a whole lot of problems. It could be Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or endometriosis. I couldn’t help but notice, however, that you said you just had an IUD removed. This can cause complications in and of itself, which you may be experiencing now.

Possible but rare complications of IUD use are damage to the uterus, fallopian tube infection, and ectopic pregnancy. All of these could produce the symptoms you are having.

Remember, think horses. Your doctor will be able to tell you more on Monday.

Lump under skin on lower right side of back?

I have this lump about the size of a nickel under the skin on my lower right side (back). The lump is about 1/2″-1″ under the skin. You cant see it but you can feel it.. If you mess with it. It cause back pain and swells up and then becomes visible. Its not discolored in the area. It was noticed during a back massage I was getting for lower back pain. I have had chronic back pain for years. Not sure this is something worth seeing a doctor over. I don’t think its causing my chronic back pain, but not sure where or how this lump ended up to be. Its been 3 months now and still hasn’t gone away and feels that it might be growing ….. Any Ideas? I really can’t afford to go to the doctor.
I think it is only an irritation of nerve endings. When someone puts strain on their eye usually the pain radiates from other part of the face. Then followed by spasm of large nerve endings. That instance will cause pain. Rest your eye. Read in a well lighted room. Computer reading is not bad unless you will put yourself in a longer hour from that.

You have had muscles in your back tightening up on you and finally now getting pinched for the pain you feel. When back muscles get tight or pinched they can press onto the nerves, as they leave the spine, going to the organs. Pressure on the nerves going to your testicles will give you pain in them. Your dr. Should have had this one. To get rid of these pains you have to free up your back muscles to release the pinched ones and to get the pressure off the nerves to your testicles and here’s how to free them up:
Back:
(do while sitting)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

I’m 12 weeks pregnant, and I have a pain in my right kidney area, has anyone else felt this?

This is just a recent occurrence. I started getting a pain in my right lower back–underneath my ribcage. I would get it, and then it would go away. I didn’t know what was causing it, so I started paying attention to things I had done or not done that day. I came to realize I was getting the pain when I had to pee really bad. It was like a pressure building up. When I’d go pee, the pain would go away. I told my doctor at my last prenatal check up, and she asked me if I was having any symptoms of a urinary tract infection, but I’m not. She then said, don’t worry about it–but if it becomes constant, then call, and tell them. The pain is now starting to be constant–in no way as severe as it is when I have to pee, but none the less there. Has anyone else experienced this pain, if so, what was it?
Just to explain further–I have no symptoms of a UTI. No pain while urinating, no blood, no dark urine, no fever, etc. The only pain I got was if I had to pee realllly bad, but when I peed, the pain went away. Except for today, I’ve been having very mild pain in that area so far today. I have been drinking water and cranberry juice.
Riverpalm answers:

It sounds like it could be a kidney infection, or it could be ligament pain. There are several ligaments that hold your uterus in place, and during pregnancy, they stretch and sometimes feel painful. A full bladder puts additional pressure on the uterus, which may be why the pain dissipates when you urinate. If it is an infection, it sounds like a mild one, if you’re not having pain during urination or any blood in the urine. Sometimes drinking lots of cranberry juice can clear up a mild infection, so you might try that. Otherwise, speak to your doctor again and let her know that your symptoms haven’t cleared up. Good luck!

You can go to doctor. Just as it was caused by sex this occasion, does not mean that he can tell. There are loads of causes, and the doctor will not need to know.
You need some strong perscribed antibiotics at once as the infection has clearly spread to your kidney. If you dont, then it could spread to other kidney and make you really ill.
You will be in alot of pain.

It seems sciatica. You shouldn’t put pressure on your legs in this condition.
There are many reasons of sciatica like pelvic injury, fracture, tumors or piriformis syndrome. Every reason has different treatment plan.

Help!! Pain in lower right abdomen?

I have been experiencing lower right abdominal pains since a week ago, but it doesnt really bother me when im doing my daily activities. It just hurts when i even poke that spot gently and when I stretch my body. If it helps, I recently had UTI (quite bad. it was up till 3, which was very close to infecting my kidneys). Took around a mth of antibiotics before the doc cleared me(urine dipstick was a negative)

Went back again within a week cos I still had a very bad urges to urinate, esp at night when I want to sleep. Doc then gave me Detrusitol and did a urine culture. The tests came back positive for minimal traces of blood and micro-organisms. Doc decided to leave it though and said it shouldnt be a prob.

But a few days after my visit to the doc I had this pain. My body feels fine, except for this constant urge to urinate sometimes(which I am trying to control cos doc says it might be cos my bladder shrunk or something.. do you guys have any ideas??). Appetite wise has been good, in fact I have been constantly hungry! I eat more each meal and more often in a day, which is good for me cos im actually quite skinny by nature(high metabolism). Have been shitting (pardon my language) as usual every morning too.

I dont know what to make of this pain! Any advices? Its in the front of my tummy. Would really appreciate some comments asap!

PS: im a 21yo female. Still a virgin, but I used to masturbate quite a bit before I got diagnosed with UTI. ive stopped now cos ive been feeling so frustrated with everything! the constant urge to urinate and the pains.

Doctors and Women!!! Help Please!! Abnormal period! Could I be pregnant?

This month my period was abnormal … It was a few days late and only lasted for two days. My period normally last four to five days. There was also a lot of vaginal mucous mixed in with the blood. My last period was on November 19th and ended on the 21st of November. I have had lower back pain, it is the same as when I have my period. The back pain has lasted for almost a week. I have a little bit of pain near my overies, mainly on the left side but nothing unbearable. My breast are a little tender but not as tender as they get with my periods. I’m not overly fatigued. For last three or four nights when I lay down in bed I get sick to my stomach, it normally passes in thirty minutes or less. My boyfriend and I have been together for eight months and we are sexually active. As of right now we are not using any form of birth control just using the pull out method. I’m thirty years old and feel like I know my body pretty well but I can’t figure this out. I have posted before and the answers I get are that I could possibly be pregnant. I’m just having a hard time understanding how I could be pregnant since I did have a short period, I’m not overly fatigued and my breast are not really sore. Could I be pregnant?!? Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thank you!! (:

Instead of posting here, to be honest, you should check out a doctor to confirm your suspicions. My personal, unprofessional opinion is that you most likely are pregnant, or your period skipped a little. However, judging by the symptoms, I highly doubt that.

Was I wrong for hitting him back?

(Im 18 he’s 22) So recently my bf came home drunk and started accusing me of a bunch of stupid sh*t. And I ignored him like I always did when he was drunk and just kept watching T.V. Then all of a sudden I feel this horrible pain on the back of my head. I turned around and realized he had just hit me with a pot. Now, I wasn’t raised to just sit around and cry when a man hits you. So before he hit me again (he started to go for it) I stood up and punched him as hard as I could in his f*cking face. He kinda did a half spin and fell down. Then I kicked him a few times, called him a few names, packed my sh*t and left. I swear to God it was probably one of the most liberating things Ive ever done, knowing I just beat the sh*t out of a woman beater.

Was I wrong??? Should I have just left?

Btw to any women in an abusive relationship….you will never feel anything as good as when you finally get yours.

Still don’t know whats wrong with me~~pregnant after period?

i have not been feeling too well lately. me & my bf had unprotected sex in the month of dec. (pull out method). me and my bf are 21, my parents dont know i have a bf cause of cultural/heritage issues. i was due for my period dec. 20th and was 7 days late, and tested on the 27th and got 2 negatives. i then got my period the next day the 28th (if thats what it was). my blood was quite a confusing color at times, it was mostly red, at other times it was brown, pink, and a dark brown that almost looked black. my period ended last monday 1/2 and i started to get random symptoms as if i was getting my period again. my bloating went away & my boobs went down as this is normal for me after my period is over. my symptoms were boobs were still sore, felt nausea at times (usually at night), difficulty sleeping at night (sleeps alot during the day), difficulty breathing (i have panic attacks so idk if thats just that or a symptom), when i wipe there is small light brown discharge and on my pantiliner & it smells a bit like metal, the aerolas around my nipples look a bit dark (cant really tell), and gassy. but as of right now my current symptoms are constant light brown discharge on my pantiliner everytime i use the bathroom, the aerolas around my nipples look a bit dark and somewhat big (cant really tell) and my boobs feel really tender as if you move a glass of water and the water moves easily, sometimes small sharp back pain on the left, gassy, and a bit queasy. my mom asked me if i’m ok cause she said i looked pale all week. are these pregnancy symptoms or ovulation symptoms? is it possible to still have these symptoms after a period? im scared that its possible to still be pregnant and have a period. this has never happened to me before after a period. i did some research and there are women that still have periods & dont find out till 3 months they are pregnant. is this true? i tested again last thursday 1/5 and another negative. so is it possible that im pregnant and still getting periods and the results are false or was it implantation bleeding or could it just be stress or a cold or ovulation effects? cause of my parents not knowing about my bf, it makes it hard where to turn to on this issue, many responses i got are telling me to go to the doctor & i wish i could but i cant. my parents always wanna be involved and if i get blood work done, the insurance has to be involved and they’ll send a letter to my house and im covered under my dads insurance. im afraid to go & if the blood work comes back and says im pregnant, im screwed. should i test again tom.? please help. thank you.

Riverpalm answers:

Well it could be implantation bleeding which is similar to what you described , sure sounds like a pregnancy to me and the reason that you are getting negatives is because the hormone that the test picks up on is still low wait a week or two more and retest (: best wishes to you !
Sharp pain in my left side between my hip bone and rib cage?

I’m 15, I was having a good morning. I was cleaning my room, while listening to my ipod and drinking some peppermint tea, because I was cold and wanted something to warm me up. Then all of a sudden I got a cough and a horrible stomach pain. I tryed to relax and it finally faded away in about 20mins. However now I have this horrible sharp pain that comes in waves on my left side between my rib cage and hip bone, more towards my back. It comes and goes really quick like in waves, a pulse movement, I’ve had it for about 30mins now. I put a warm rice bag on it and its helping a lot. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I differently couldn’t live with it. I have an acid reflex problem, and I take a daily pill for it. I usually have no problem with it though and I took that pill today. Now I’m scared to eat, because it’s just now starting to fill better and I’m afraid it will make my stomach hurt. I had acid reflex pains before, but I think this is something different, defiantly worse. It almost feels like cramps, but I had my t.o.m. about a week ago so that can’t be it. Idk what do you guys think it is? Or what caused it? I really want it to go away and not have it happen again. Thanks
Also it makes no difference when breathing and is not sore to touch

This is not to freak you out, but I had what was called ecclampsia. It is a potentially fatal, prenatal disease. The reason my right side and back hurt so terribly was because my liver and kidneys were failing. This is the only really prominent symtom I had. Otherwise, paired with headaches, high blood pressure, and swelling in feet & ankles…can be very very dangerous. I say go to see your OB ASAP and explain this pain to him/her. Make sure they do the routine urine check, blood pressure check, and check your hands, feet, and ankles. I really don’t mean to scare you, but many people downplayed and dismissed my concerns, and by the grace of God, my daughter and I are here today.

Riverpalm answers:

Hi there!

I’m wondering if you slept on it funny or perhaps you have a pulled muscle.

I’m glad you went to the doctor to rule out other things.

Try warm compresses and see if that will alleviate the pain.

I’m not sure how long you’ve had this, but I would also consider having a massage by a massage therapist in a chiropractor’s office.

They will be sensitive to your pain and your needs and will work to find the reason if it’s indeed a pulled muscle. The office may even apply the heat there prior to your massage to relax all of your muscles.

I hope this helps and you get the relief you need.

Best wishes to you
