Lower left back pain: Muscle stress or imbalance is the primary root cause
Your Back is a mechanical wonder and to understand what causes your lower left back pain you must have a basic understanding of the tedious and complex task that your back performs on a daily basis. There are several causes of lower left back pain but primarily it is triggered by some combination of overuse, muscle strain, and injury to the muscles, ligaments, and discs that support the spine. Many experts believe that over time muscle strain can lead to an overall imbalance in the spinal structure. This leads to a constant tension on the muscles, ligaments, bones, and discs, making the back more prone to injury or reinjury. The cause of pain in your lower back back, tend to add on to one another. For example, after straining muscles, you are likely to walk or move in different ways to avoid pain or use muscles that aren’t sore. That can cause you to strain other muscles that don’t usually move that way.
Back pain is one of the most common complaints in the world especially for the elderly and those who perform tasks that put their backs into overdrive. Consider how strong and reliable your back must be to support all your daily activities such as running, walking, bending, lifting, and jumping. And yet it has the ability to turn in all directions. But providing strength and flexibility is not the only thing that your back does; it also has the protective role of protecting the spinal cord and the spinal nerve roots which are the information highway which the brain uses to send information to you legs, hands, feet, back, etc. This information is what makes you to be mobile and functional on a daily basis. You should marvel at what the back does like protection against injury of the spinal cord and providing mobility like running or picking up a small child or a load. Even during pregnancy, the back is put under a lot of stress. By becoming more knowledgeable about the workings of the spine, and the tissues around it, you can understand and appreciate why the backs is so good at what it is designed to do.
The vertebrae are the name given to the unique interlocking arrangement of bones that make up your spine. There are five vertebrae just above the pelvis. The section of the spine that is mainly associated with lower left back pain is the lumbar spine. The disc of the cartilage separates each vertebra. This intervertebral disc consists primarily of cartilage, other connecting tissues and water. Functioning as joints, discs connect vertebrae to one another so that one vertebrae can move relative to its neighbor. Positioned between each vertebrae the donut-shaped disc have a jell-like center and a tougher outer covering. Think of a disk as a water bed. The water in the bed helps the bed to change its shape as pressure is put on it. As soon as the pressure is released the bed takes a leveled shape like nothing was ever put on it. The cushioning effect of the disc prevents the vertebrae from scratching against one another as they move. This accommodation happens every time you make a movement that involves your back , even when you are sitting on your desk to write and simply turn your head. The discs afford you back protection from bumps because they serve as shock absorbers.
Just like an elevator in a high-rise building the spinal column runs throughout the entire length of the spine and through each vertebrae, and the spinal column is protected by the vertebrae as it send signals to the brain and the brain it turn responds to the signals, just as an elevator stops in all the floors as people exit and enter. The elevator shaft only gives an opening in every floor for people to exit and enter. The lumber vertebrae also connects to muscles and provide movement.
One of the most common reason for back pain is muscle imbalance and weight plays a major role at this one. Constant poor posturing will cause uneven pressure on the disc and having a weight problem makes the situation even worse. Obesity must be addressed if you need to get a permanent relief from back pain.
A healthy disc must have the ability to maintain fluid and be balanced. If muscle imbalance is not addressed very quickly, the disc will eventually deteriorate over the years until they become distorted and pain becomes unbearable because of the grinding effect of the dry disc as it has lost it cushioning ability, and mobility becomes a major problem when this happens.
As the disc become dry, because they have lost their cushioning ability, they flatten out because of pressure put on them by you. It will bulge out and become disfigured; this would be called a herniated disc. In some cases there is a rupture which means that the disc will start to tear apart. Muscle imbalance is primarily the cause of disc problems and if dealt with early, most of these problems would not manifest.
There are short term and long term solutions to lower left back pain like heating pads, ice pack, or consulting with your physician and other methods. There is great benefit in seeking early and lasting solution. Living with back pain is a condition that no one wants to live with. If you are suffering from lowe lft back pain, you need to do something about it. Don’t continue living with the pain because it is only going to get worse.
